Clin­i­cal Board of Directors


Sloan S. Shah, MD, FACOG, Pres­i­dent, Clin­i­cal Board

Dr. Sloan Shah joined Michi­ana Obstet­rics and Gyne­col­o­gy in 2001 after com­plet­ing her train­ing at Rush Uni­ver­si­ty in Chica­go. She is orig­i­nal­ly from north­west Illi­nois, grow­ing up in Sycamore.

After grad­u­at­ing from North­ern Illi­nois Uni­ver­si­ty, where she received her under­grad­u­ate degree in biol­o­gy, Dr. Shah attend­ed med­ical school at Loy­ola Uni­ver­si­ty Stritch School of Med­i­cine in May­wood, IL.

Dr. Shah has enjoyed car­ing for women and fam­i­lies in Michi­ana for more than 20 years. Her prac­tice encom­pass­es all aspects of OB/GYN, but she has great inter­est in ado­les­cent gyne­col­o­gy, hor­mon­al and men­stru­al dis­or­ders, the menopause tran­si­tion, and min­i­mal­ly inva­sive surgery, includ­ing Laparo­scop­ic and Da Vin­ci Robot­ic procedures.

She is mar­ried to Dr. Raj Shah and has two chil­dren, Vince and Nicol­i­na. When not see­ing patients, Dr. Shah enjoys spend­ing time with her fam­i­ly, trav­el­ing, and being a fit­ness and well­ness enthu­si­ast. She also enjoys incor­po­rat­ing holis­tic and East­ern med­i­cine philoso­phies to cur­rent tech­nolo­gies and tra­di­tions in med­ical man­age­ment. Her hob­bies include exer­cise, yoga, read­ing and gardening.

Lau­ra Albright, MD, Clin­i­cal Board

Dr. Lau­ra Albright is a ded­i­cat­ed fam­i­ly med­i­cine physi­cian at The South Bend Clin­ic, pro­vid­ing com­pre­hen­sive care to patients of all ages in the Michi­ana com­mu­ni­ty since 2018. She val­ues atten­tive lis­ten­ing and shared deci­sion-mak­ing, ensur­ing patients receive per­son­al­ized, evi­dence-based care tai­lored to their indi­vid­ual health needs. Her clin­i­cal inter­ests include pre­ven­tive med­i­cine, wom­en’s health, men­tal health, pedi­atric care, and acute care.

Dr. Albright earned her med­ical degree from the Uni­ver­si­ty of Iowa Carv­er Col­lege of Med­i­cine in 2014 and com­plet­ed her Fam­i­ly Med­i­cine res­i­den­cy at Saint Joseph Region­al Med­ical Cen­ter. Out­side of her prac­tice, she enjoys trav­el­ing, gar­den­ing, read­ing, and explor­ing her wood­ed neighborhood.

Dr. Luis Benavente, MD, Clin­i­cal Board

Dr. Luis Benavente is a board-cer­ti­fied sur­geon spe­cial­iz­ing in min­i­mal­ly inva­sive and bariatric surgery at The South Bend Clin­ic, where he has served the Michi­ana com­mu­ni­ty since 2011. With a focus on the caus­es, pre­ven­tion, and treat­ment of obe­si­ty, he helps patients achieve long-term weight loss, improve car­dio­vas­cu­lar health, and man­age con­di­tions like diabetes.

Dr. Benavente is flu­ent in both Eng­lish and Span­ish and is an active mem­ber of the Amer­i­can Col­lege of Sur­geons and the Amer­i­can Soci­ety for Meta­bol­ic and Bariatric Surgery.

He earned his med­ical degree from Uni­ver­si­dad Autóno­ma de San Luis Poto­sí School of Med­i­cine in 2002, com­plet­ed his sur­gi­cal res­i­den­cy at The Mayo Clin­ic, and pur­sued a fel­low­ship in Advanced Min­i­mal­ly Inva­sive and Bariatric Surgery at The Methodist Hos­pi­tal. Out­side of med­i­cine, he enjoys spend­ing time with his fam­i­ly and cycling.

Alfre­do Caset­ti, MD, Clin­i­cal Board

Dr. Caset­ti received his med­ical degree from the Uni­ver­si­ty of Michi­gan and com­plet­ed his res­i­den­cy for gen­er­al surgery at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Michi­gan as well. He has two fel­low­ships; one in ECMO and Crit­i­cal Care. Dr. Caset­ti received his board cer­ti­fi­ca­tion in gen­er­al surgery.

Dr. Caset­ti enjoys golf, work­ing out, and spend­ing time with his wife.

Dr. Louis Cava­di­ni, DO

Dr. Louis Cava­di­ni is a board-cer­ti­fied fam­i­ly med­i­cine physi­cian at The South Bend Clin­ic’s Imme­di­ate Care Cen­ters, pro­vid­ing acute care to adult and pedi­atric patients in the Michi­ana com­mu­ni­ty since 2018. He is a mem­ber of the Amer­i­can Acad­e­my of Fam­i­ly Physi­cians and is com­mit­ted to deliv­er­ing time­ly, high-qual­i­ty care in urgent med­ical situations.

Dr. Cava­di­ni earned his Doc­tor of Osteopa­thy degree from Lake Erie Col­lege of Osteo­path­ic Med­i­cine in 2014 and com­plet­ed his Fam­i­ly Med­i­cine res­i­den­cy at St. Joseph Region­al Med­ical Center.

Jon B. Chad­well, MD, Clin­i­cal Board
 

Upon receiv­ing his under­grad­u­ate degree at Ohio Uni­ver­si­ty, Dr. Chad­well went to med­ical school at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Cincin­nati Col­lege of Med­i­cine. He com­plet­ed his res­i­den­cy at Uni­ver­si­ty Hos­pi­tal in Cincin­nati. Dr. Chad­well is board cer­ti­fied in both Oto­laryn­gol­o­gy and Facial Plas­tic & Recon­struc­tive Surgery. He com­plet­ed an accred­it­ed Amer­i­can Acad­e­my of Facial Plas­tics Fel­low­ship giv­ing him the exper­tise required to be a Facial Plas­tic Sur­geon. 
 

Senior Man­age­ment Team

Bri­an Carter, MD, President

Bri­an Carter, M.D., is board-cer­ti­fied in Fam­i­ly Medicine.

He attend­ed the Uni­ver­si­ty of Neva­da, where he received his under­grad­u­ate degree, and earned his med­ical degree from the Uni­ver­si­ty of Neva­da School of Med­i­cine. He com­plet­ed his res­i­den­cy at Saint Joseph Region­al Med­ical Cen­ter in South Bend. He is the for­mer chair­man of the Depart­ment of Fam­i­ly Med­i­cine and serves as a mem­ber of the South Bend Clin­ic Board of Trustees.

Dr. Carter enjoys out­side activ­i­ties and has com­plet­ed mul­ti­ple Iron­man Triathlons and numer­ous ultra­ma­rathons. He brings this pas­sion for life and the impor­tance of a healthy lifestyle into his patient care when­ev­er pos­si­ble. He is mar­ried with two chil­dren and enjoys spend­ing time with fam­i­ly and friends.

Wendy Huff­man, Exec­u­tive Direc­tor of Operations

Wendy Huff­man has been an inte­gral part of The South Bend Clin­ic since 2007, when she began her career as the Direc­tor of the Ambu­la­to­ry Surgery Cen­ter. In 2023, she tran­si­tioned to the role of Direc­tor of Sur­gi­cal Ser­vices, show­cas­ing her exper­tise and ded­i­ca­tion to enhanc­ing patient care.

In 2024, Wendy was named Exec­u­tive Direc­tor of Oper­a­tions, where she lever­ages her wealth of knowl­edge and strong lead­er­ship skills to sup­port physi­cians, SBC lead­er­ship, and team mem­bers. Wendy also plays a key role in dri­ving orga­ni­za­tion­al growth and future devel­op­ment, ensur­ing the con­tin­ued expan­sion and suc­cess of the clin­ic. Her com­mit­ment to oper­a­tional excel­lence and col­lab­o­ra­tive approach con­tin­ue to dri­ve improve­ments in ser­vice deliv­ery and patient out­comes across the organization.

Wendy earned her Bach­e­lor of Sci­ence in Busi­ness with a focus on Health­care Man­age­ment from Indi­ana Uni­ver­si­ty South Bend.
