Clinical Board of Directors

Sloan S. Shah, MD, FACOG, President, Clinical Board
Dr. Sloan Shah joined Michiana Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2001 after completing her training at Rush University in Chicago. She is originally from northwest Illinois, growing up in Sycamore.
After graduating from Northern Illinois University, where she received her undergraduate degree in biology, Dr. Shah attended medical school at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, IL.
Dr. Shah has enjoyed caring for women and families in Michiana for more than 20 years. Her practice encompasses all aspects of OB/GYN, but she has great interest in adolescent gynecology, hormonal and menstrual disorders, the menopause transition, and minimally invasive surgery, including Laparoscopic and Da Vinci Robotic procedures.
She is married to Dr. Raj Shah and has two children, Vince and Nicolina. When not seeing patients, Dr. Shah enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and being a fitness and wellness enthusiast. She also enjoys incorporating holistic and Eastern medicine philosophies to current technologies and traditions in medical management. Her hobbies include exercise, yoga, reading and gardening.

Laura Albright, MD, Clinical Board
Dr. Laura Albright is a dedicated family medicine physician at The South Bend Clinic, providing comprehensive care to patients of all ages in the Michiana community since 2018. She values attentive listening and shared decision-making, ensuring patients receive personalized, evidence-based care tailored to their individual health needs. Her clinical interests include preventive medicine, women’s health, mental health, pediatric care, and acute care.
Dr. Albright earned her medical degree from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in 2014 and completed her Family Medicine residency at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. Outside of her practice, she enjoys traveling, gardening, reading, and exploring her wooded neighborhood.

Dr. Luis Benavente, MD, Clinical Board
Dr. Luis Benavente is a board-certified surgeon specializing in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at The South Bend Clinic, where he has served the Michiana community since 2011. With a focus on the causes, prevention, and treatment of obesity, he helps patients achieve long-term weight loss, improve cardiovascular health, and manage conditions like diabetes.
Dr. Benavente is fluent in both English and Spanish and is an active member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
He earned his medical degree from Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí School of Medicine in 2002, completed his surgical residency at The Mayo Clinic, and pursued a fellowship in Advanced Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at The Methodist Hospital. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his family and cycling.

Alfredo Casetti, MD, Clinical Board
Dr. Casetti received his medical degree from the University of Michigan and completed his residency for general surgery at the University of Michigan as well. He has two fellowships; one in ECMO and Critical Care. Dr. Casetti received his board certification in general surgery.
Dr. Casetti enjoys golf, working out, and spending time with his wife.

Dr. Louis Cavadini, DO
Dr. Louis Cavadini is a board-certified family medicine physician at The South Bend Clinic’s Immediate Care Centers, providing acute care to adult and pediatric patients in the Michiana community since 2018. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and is committed to delivering timely, high-quality care in urgent medical situations.
Dr. Cavadini earned his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2014 and completed his Family Medicine residency at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.

Jon B. Chadwell, MD, Clinical Board
Upon receiving his undergraduate degree at Ohio University, Dr. Chadwell went to medical school at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed his residency at University Hospital in Cincinnati. Dr. Chadwell is board certified in both Otolaryngology and Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. He completed an accredited American Academy of Facial Plastics Fellowship giving him the expertise required to be a Facial Plastic Surgeon.

Brian Carter, MD, President
Brian Carter, M.D., is board-certified in Family Medicine.
He attended the University of Nevada, where he received his undergraduate degree, and earned his medical degree from the University of Nevada School of Medicine. He completed his residency at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend. He is the former chairman of the Department of Family Medicine and serves as a member of the South Bend Clinic Board of Trustees.
Dr. Carter enjoys outside activities and has completed multiple Ironman Triathlons and numerous ultramarathons. He brings this passion for life and the importance of a healthy lifestyle into his patient care whenever possible. He is married with two children and enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Wendy Huffman, Executive Director of Operations
Wendy Huffman has been an integral part of The South Bend Clinic since 2007, when she began her career as the Director of the Ambulatory Surgery Center. In 2023, she transitioned to the role of Director of Surgical Services, showcasing her expertise and dedication to enhancing patient care.
In 2024, Wendy was named Executive Director of Operations, where she leverages her wealth of knowledge and strong leadership skills to support physicians, SBC leadership, and team members. Wendy also plays a key role in driving organizational growth and future development, ensuring the continued expansion and success of the clinic. Her commitment to operational excellence and collaborative approach continue to drive improvements in service delivery and patient outcomes across the organization.
Wendy earned her Bachelor of Science in Business with a focus on Healthcare Management from Indiana University South Bend.
